DF’s thoughts

If you’re an avid watcher of anime or avid visual novel reader, you’re well aware of the “flag” trope. Friendship flags, romance flags, death flags, et cetera. They’re a staple in visual novels, and a fairly comedic topic when bought up in anime.

What if an anime used those flags as the concept of its plot? The truth is, it works out pretty well.. most of the time! Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara aka If Her Flag Breaks or Gaworare— is pretty much the first show (to my knowledge) that uses the concept of flags as a main component of its core.

They succeeded- more or less. Sure, the show doesn’t go too far outside the typical harem aspects but do many shows do actually? Most of the copy pasta harem shows of recent memory are fucking trash anyway. The art isn’t even that moe moe either. Harem show without a single unique aspect to it and non-moe moe art? Absolutely blasphemous.

What really bothered me is how the plot direction near the end went from 0-100 real quick. From a happy-go-lucky kawaii moe moe ecchi harem to… some sort of supernatural crazyness. It didn’t sit too well with me and end up affecting my overall enjoyment of the show. Not sure what the fuck the writers were doing here.
