2013; keep/drop

1) Gin no Saji (season 01) = warning: extreme levels of SOL, proceed with caution

2) Haiyore! Nyaruko-san (season 02) = grandfather keep via prequel

3) IS Infinite Stratos (season 02) = grandfather drop via prequel

4) Kiniro Mosaic (season 01) = similar to the other kiddy SOL comedies but even more more kiddy

5) Kyoukai no Kanata = an extreme mix of everything, complete with movies, ovas, specials, oh my

6) Little Busters (season 02) = grandfather drop via prequel

7) Love Live! (season 01) = same reason for dropping [The IdolM@ster]

8) Nagi no Asukara = this show has always been commended by a lot of viewers, but fuck, I don’t see myself going through 26 episodes

9) Non non Biyori (season 01) = another kiddy SOL comedy

10) NouCome = another wacky show I’ve been looking forward to, a la [Haiyore Nyaruko-san]

11) Sasami-san@Ganbaranai = a very unique looking show with spurts of randomness, I can dig it

12) Servant x Service = That working life SOL. I have a bit of a soft spot for shows with older characters but…

13) Strike the Blood = the only reason I am considering watching this show, /s

14) Tamako Market = I hear this is a beautiful/well told story similiar to [Hanasaku Iroha] but “not as good”

15) Teekyuu (season 02 + season 03) = grandfather keep via prequel

16) Yozakura Quartlet = show looks entertaining with a fuck ton of arcs/seasons but something about it puts me off

  1. Non Non Biyori is NOT a ‘kiddy slice-of-life comedy’. It’s Seinen, the kind of show for more mature viewers to look back on the very heart of youth. It’s the kind of show that deals with delicate but powerful subtlety while maintaining an incredibly relaxing vibe, and is one of the most highly-rated SoL shows you’ll come across.

You’re missing out on a lot by dropping it.

    • I’ll take that into consideration, maybe it might deserve a run back.

How was Non Non Biyori Repeat for you? Same good stuff?

      • I haven’t actually finished the first series yet – I’m enjoying it slowly, like a rich delicacy, because every episode feels like the most relaxing and endearing show I’ve ever watched.

I’ve only heard good things about the sequel though. 🙂

  2. Little note on Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) – it’s the same author as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It’s much more of a character drama than slice of life, but it may feel more slice of life-y earlier on. The author’s skill with characters really shines through as you hit end of Season 1 start of season 2.
