Art & Animation

  • Art is not bad…? I guess I was expecting a little more considering it’s a show with photography as a theme
  • Lines can sometimes get a bit too sharp for my tastes, I’d prefer if they were softened up a bit to have a more natural feeling
  • Color work was pretty on point, not too saturated; natural tones
  • Kudos for some work and effort going into background(s) and minor details
  • Some of the animation and transitional effects were pretty nice to watch

Music & Sounds

  • The OP was oddly… satisfying? It was pretty unique in terms of how mellow/soothing it was
  • The sound composition used throughout the show was great in terms of variety and “effectiveness”
  • ED was a pretty good listen. Decent visuals was a bonus
  • Overall, putting everything else aside, this show has some pretty damn good music all around

Characters

  • (whistles) lookie them VAs ( http://myanimelist.net/anime/16397/Photokano/characters )
  • I actually thought the male lead was pretty good. Sometimes a bit cringe-worthy but he didn’t get on my nerves, which is pretty rare nowadays
  • The female cast were absolute cuties so at least the show had that going for it
  • The girls are pretty much the usual character archetypes you encounter while watching these types of shows. You’ll see what I mean when you watch it yourself

Story & Plot

  • On initial watch– even without doing any research and the untrained eye, it’s pretty safe to assume that the source material came from a visual novel. It just has that exact feeling to it
  • The show likes to incorporate a shit ton of glamour shots and freeze frames of the girls. Not complaining per se, but just something to point out. Though if I think about, it does fit in with the show’s theme and all
  • The show did have it’s… stupid “generic show/cringe” moments every now and again but NBD
  • The ecchi moments were sometimes incorporated somewhat awkwardly(?)
  • The show switches pace about mid-point, shifting to an episodic new girl every arc omnibus type of format a la [ Amagami SS ]. This is actually my first experience with the omnibus format and honestly it’s not that bad. This show in particular felt a bit cramped but if it was like a 2-3 episode segment– that might have improved things (I think [ Yosuga no Sora ] had that setup)

Ending

  • Not sure if omnibus shows usually have “proper” endings but this show didn’t
  • At least they wrapped up the show with “best girl” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

DF says…

Originally, the sudden pace switch really threw me off, like what the fuck is going on?! but now that I look back at it, they just made the first girl have the longest arc and then the sequential episodes were left to the rest of the cast. It was a… messy show but it offered decent visuals and audio to compensate. FWIW, some of the arcs were pretty fun to watch.
